Here's another benefit of Periscope I hadn't really thought about before
I went to 4Networking Gainsborough the other day and was asked if I minded my 4Sight being broadcast on Periscope.
I’ve written a couple of blogs already about Periscope – My tips for building your audience on Periscope and Joining up real life networking, Twitter hashtags and Periscope – so you may already know that I don’t really like to use Periscope as a broadcast. I prefer to use it as a conversation and engage with the comments which are coming in.
So having my 4Sight scoped was unusual for me, because I wasn’t even watching the comments that came in and my audience was subject to 15 minutes of me presenting. I was engaging with, and chatting to, my audience in Gainsborough, but not with the wider audience watching on their ‘phones and devices around the world. It turns out we had 163 live viewers and 12 people have watched it since.
The extra benefit though is what I did with the content next. At the end of every Periscope broadcast you are given the option to “Save to camera roll” and get the actual video file saved to your phone or device.
I really recommend doing that and then uploading the content to YouTube and Facebook. Replays are only available on Periscope for 24 hours, but if you also share the video to your YouTube channel and Facebook page, you give any audience who wasn’t able to be there live, the opportunity to watch the content at a time to suit them. They can’t see the comments, they can’t engage, but they can digest your content and might, as a result, be more inclined to make time to watch you live next time you broadcast.
There is something very raw about Periscope. You’re live so there are no second takes. There’s no option to go again if you don’t think your content or delivery is perfect. And I love that about it, you tend to get much more of the person.
And that, in my opinion, makes for great content which adds to the library of content you should be putting out there.
